Tarra Nettles-Gilbert was born in Pensacola, Florida to Vernell and the late Walter Nettles. The oldest of the couple's six children, Tarra was always known as the "talker." That probably should have given a clue as to her future. Being an Army brat, Tarra traveled extensively overseas and across the country.
Minister Gilbert graduated from Lawton High School, attended Oklahoma City Community College and Cameron University. Tarra has enjoyed almost thirty years in broadcasting. She has reported or anchored the news at KSWO-TV, KFOR, KWTV-9, and KAUZ. She was the News Director at KLAW-KZCD and KVRS Radio stations. During her broadcasting career she has interviewed many people to include "Smoking" Joe Frazier, "Sugar" Ray Leonard, Little Richard, James Brown, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls and Lt. Governor Mary Fallin, Former Congressman J. C. Watts and President George W. Bush.
Minister Gilbert answered the call of ministry in 1986. The Lord spoke to her about the needs of women.
He said, "Women are like the hub of a wheel. The spokes represent our husbands, children, attitudes and beliefs. A Godly woman affects these areas with Christ-likeness."
She has spent two decades ministering to women across the country individually, in churches and at conferences. She is founder and Senior Minister of CREATED IN HIS IMAGE MINITRIES, an outreach ministry to women and heads up the WOMEN'S INSPIRATIONAL NETWORK, through which she organizes and facilitates empowerment workshops for women. Through “WIN” Tarra creates a platform for other women on a variety of levels.
After thirty years of friendship, sixteen years ago Tarra married Edmond "Turk" Gilbert. She is mother to three children from a previous marriage, Ishala, who is with the Lord, Keisa, and Andrew Haskins. She is "Grammie" to five beautiful, precious, blessed, wonderful grandchildren, Micah, Vashayla, Joshua and twins Jaylen and Jariahs.
Currently Minister Gilbert has developed a talk show that has aired in Oklahoma City, Lawton and Wichita Falls, Texas. Her program "A Woman's Place" is about, you guessed it, women. She is also launching a cosmetic company called “Simply Tarra Cosmetics and Fragrances.” Her products are mineral cosmetics with aloe and shea butter and no talc. Tarra firmly believes, that A Woman's Place Is Any Place She Needs To Be, and she's just the woman to be there!
Tarra is also founder and director of the WOMEN'S INSPIRATIONAL NETWORK, and is preparing to launch an online radio station.
A couple of Tarra's favorite scriptures are Isaiah 62:4, Hebrews 13:5-6 (amplified) and Romans 8:35-39.
