The moment of truth came seven years ago when Sylvia Wright-Cox decided she wanted to do something special for her community. Once she realized that there was a big demand for event planners in her hometown, she immediately jumped at the opportunity. That's when her passion and creation called Dreams and Visions Event Planner, Inc. was born.
The daughter of Shirley Seymour-Wright and the late Charlie Wright, Ms. Cox resides in the Miami Gardens community where she is a single parent of a college student daughter Sherina and high school son Branden.
Ms. Cox is a former runway model for Barbizon Modeling School. She was selected to enter the Caribbean Model of the Year competition with 55 other models. Ms. Cox received the prestigious offer and was crowned Model Of The Year in the competition. She also attended Miami-Dade College where she received her degree in Nursing which enabled her positions at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Veteran Administration Hospital. And for the past 23 years, Ms. Cox has been employed full-time with the Federal Government.
When asked how was she able to get started with a business such as this knowing that the financial burdens could be great coupled with the fact that she was still raising her two children, Ms. Cox smiled and said, "That part of my life is a big blur right now. All I remember is that I needed the money to help with my household. I didn't want my children to suffer because I couldn't provide for them. And when the idea of organizing parties and weddings came to my mind, it seemed like a good idea. I kind of knew that it would be hard to get started, but I was willing to make the sacrifice. And no matter what I do in life, my children always comes first with me. And they know that. My relationship with my children is solid. So, when I finalized the decision to make this move of owning my own business, they were right there with me encouraging me to do it. When I saw how enthusiastic they were about it, that made me hungrier to get started. I can't say that money wasn't an issue, because it was at that time. But, I knew that once I got started that everything would fall into place for us. So, I went on and found out as much about opening a business as I could. I started taking classes and going to almost every seminar there was that came to south Florida. I learned so much and got the help I needed from Micro business small loans and Urban Ministries grant monies. The Mom and Pop grant monies helped me out tremendously with everything I needed to start my business. And with my non-stop faith in God, my blessings have been phenomenal and things are working out just fine for me and my children."
Ms. Cox comes from a family with a strong foundation and still sees the benefits of what hard work can accomplish. As the owner of her own business, she takes those same principles of working hard and continuously applies them to each of her clients to ensure that they are satisfied with her services.
Through the dedication of Ms. Cox, Dreams & Visions Event Planner, Inc., has become one of south Florida's best event planning companies in the Miami-Dade County area. Ms. Cox has been in the business of planning various events for more than five years, and has created a niche market nest. What started out as a hobby, Ms. Cox has honed into a well respected business. And because of this, she has developed a strong relationship with the Miami Chamber of Commerce, District I, as well as with local business owners.
Dreams & Visions provide services for weddings, anniversaries, graduation parties, office events, disability parties, corporate functions, sweet sixteen or Quinceañera, boy-to-man inductions, retirement parties, grand openings, baby showers, children parties, choreography, make-up artists, rental equipment, caterers, centerpieces, souvenirs, invitations, event programs, and much more.
In the past year, Ms. Cox has yet again expanded her business. She now owns and operates Unique Gift Basket Company where she makes creative baskets for all occasions.
Ms. Cox maintains a good rapport with her clientele to ensure that they get the best deals possible for whatever event they are planning. She works closely with her clients by personal visits and constant phone contacts. She believes that communication with precise clarity is key to a successful outcome.
Ms. Cox vows to continue to work hard for all her clients. Her rule of thumb is to always provide her clientele with licensed and insured vendors who have pleasing and friendly personalities.
"I want to make sure that my clients don't feel uncomfortable with the people I refer them to. All of my referrals have to be honest, sincere, professional, reasonably priced, dependable, and love what they do. I spent months finding and weaning out different prospects to work alongside me and my potential clients. And the ones that I have contracts with at this time are here indefinitely. I use them over and over again. And as long as they don't wear out, I won't either," she laughed. "But, if my clients have their own preferences, I do not discourage that at all. They are welcomed to choose whomever they feel most comfortable with. When all is said and done, at the end of the event when my clients come to me with beautiful words of gratitude and smiles on their faces and oftentimes with tears in their eyes, I know that I did my job and I know that I did my job well. Accolades like that warms my heart and fuels me to keep going. I love what I do. It's my passion."
